LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT, CHERYL SCUORZO:
The Italian American Association of Monmouth County began 4 years ago when 3 men, Robert DeSalvatore, Anthony Ciricillo and Steve Cataneo were sitting in a backyard smoking cigars, sharing stories about their Italian culture and family traditions that they grew up with. They shared a vision of building a legacy for their children and fellow Italians to perpetuate the heritage that they so loved. In true Italian style, they turned their vision into a reality and founded the Italian American Association of Monmouth County, receiving a tremendous response from the Italian community at their first meeting in January, 2005.
In four short years, the organization has grown to 285 members to date and offers scholarships, Italian lessons for children and adults, cultural events such as Carnevale, La Befana and Tombola , cooking lessons, trips and of course, a wonderful, annual Italian Festival.
I have been an active member since its inception and am very proud to have been elected president of this organization for the years 2009 and 2010. I look forward to continuing the work we have begun as an organization and will continue that vision of passing on the rich Italian culture and traditions that I also have a passion for.
Italians have truly influenced civilization in the areas of art, music, literature and, of course, cuisine. That being said, our organization is committed to portraying Italians and Italian Americans in the positive light that they truly deserve.
Membership is open to anyone 21 years of age and older. It is a great organization to be a part of to connect with Italian culture and to make many new and wonderful friendships.
